Faculty

The Masters Center faculty is comprised of a
multi-disciplinary team of physicians, physical
therapists, chiropractors and senior level
massage therapists. They share a single-minded
dedication to preparing Masters Center students
for a productive and rewarding career in medical
restorative massage.
The diverse perspectives and deep expertise of
the faculty, combined with their personal
commitment to the program, together offer a
learning experience that will provide an
in-depth understanding of the human body and how
it responds to a wide variety of massage
techniques.
Small class sizes assure that every student has
direct access to the faculty, and an opportunity
for one-on-one interaction and instruction

M. A. Everhart-McDonald, MD
|
Medical Advisor for the M. T. Wellness Masters
Center holds a BA from Otterbein College in
Health and Physical Education, a MS from
Southern Illinois University, and she completed
medical school at The Ohio State University
School of Medicine. Following graduation, she
completed a residency in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation (PM&R) at The Ohio State
University and Riverside Hospital. She is board
certified in PM&R and Electrodiagnostic
Medicine. Dr. Everhart has a strong interest
and broad experience in sports medicine. She is
on staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital where
she is lecturer in the residency program, and
Grant Medical Center. She has been in private
practice specializing in physical medicine and
electrodiagnostic medicine since 1990.

Brian Bowyer, MD
|
Medical Lecturer for the M. T. Wellness Masters
Center is Associate Professor of Clinical
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Ohio
State University. Dr. Bowyer completed both
Medical School and his Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation (PM&R) Residency at The Ohio
State University College of Medicine. He then
joined the faculty in The OSU Department of PM&R
in 1987 and has remained on the faculty ever
since. He is Board Certified in both Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation and
Electrodiagnostic Medicine. His practice focuses
on the evaluation and treatment of
neuromusculoskeletal disorders - particularly
those which are sports-related - such as
problems involving the knees, shoulders, back,
"pinched nerves," carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.
As a full time faculty member at OSU, he is
actively involved in teaching PM&R Residents as
well as medical students on a daily basis, and
coordinates and teaches his Department's
Musculoskeletal and Prosthetics/Orthotics
Courses. Dr. Bowyer received the “Teacher Of
The Year Award” presented by PM&R residents in
1987, 1998, 2000, and 2005.

Alan Saxon, DC
|
Medical Restorative Massage Therapy Techniques
Lecturer for the M. T. Wellness Masters Center,
Alan holds a BS from Upper Iowa University and a
DC from the Cleveland Chiropractic College. He
was the first Ortho-Bionomy instructor in the
United States and he co-founded the Society of
Ortho-Bionomy with Arthur Pauls, DO in 1978. He
is a Diplomat of the International Craniopathic
society and a Certified Advanced Instructor in
Ortho-Bionomy. Alan has taught advanced
Chiropractic and Osteopathic techniques for over
21 years, including six years at Palmer
Chiropractic College. He has been practicing
Classical Homeopathy for 18 years and has
lectured on the subject to various
health-interest groups and laypersons as well.
He is the author of two standard textbooks of
chiropractic technique and has won many awards
for his teaching excellence over the years.

Thuy Bowyer, BS, LMT
(Licensed Massage Therapist).
|
Curriculum Developer and Consultant to the M. T.
Wellness Masters Center, Thuy is the founder and
President of M. T. Wellness. In addition to
running the Clinic, and serving as a lead
trainer, Thuy maintains a full schedule as a
hands-on therapist. Thuy holds a Bachelors of
Science from The Ohio State University and she
completed her massage therapy training at
Massage Away School Of Therapy, now known as
American Institute of Alternative Medicine.
Since receiving her license in 1997, Thuy has
completed over five hundred hours of advanced
training with emphasis on pain management and
physical function.

Susan Lerch, MS, PT (Physical Therapist)
|
Curriculum Coordinator for M.T. Wellness Masters
Center, Susan holds a B. S. from the University
of Minnesota and a M. S. from The Ohio State
University. She has been involved in
rehabilitation for thirty-five years. She has
been a clinician, specializing in manual
(hands-on) orthopedic outpatient treatment, but
has also worked in hospital and skilled nursing
facilities. In the clinical setting, she was
the Director of Program and Staff Development,
responsible for orientation and training for all
staff in the Physical Therapy clinic. Medical
documentation is an area of expertise. Susan
has also been an academic educator for physical
therapists, as an Assistant Professor at the
University of Health Sciences of the Chicago
Medical School and a Lecturer at The Ohio State
University. She was an Instructor in the
Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Central
Ohio Technical College.

Len
Montavon, MA, LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist)
|
Medical Restorative Massage Therapy Techniques
Lecturer for the M. T. Wellness Masters Center,
Len holds a B. S. in education from Ohio
University and a M.A. in sports medicine from
Kent State University. She completed her
massage therapy training at the Central Ohio
School of Massage Therapy. Len has twenty-nine
years of teaching experience. For eighteen
years she has taught the basic massage course at
several Ohio Medical Board approved massage
therapy schools. Len has also instructed LMTs in an
advanced course in trigger point therapy and
cross-fiber frictions for fourteen years. She has
taught Sports massage seminars and she holds
national certification in both massage and
sports massage.

Susan Pirkl, RN, LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist)
|
Medical Restorative Massage Therapy Internship
Coordinator for the M. T. Wellness Masters
Center Susan is a senior therapist at the clinic
and she serves as a lead trainer in addition to
maintaining a full schedule as a hands-on
therapist. Susan is a registered nurse and she
completed nursing training at Kent State
University. She completed her massage therapy
training at the American Institute of
Alternative Medicine. Susan is also certified
for pregnancy related massage therapy.

Bob
Adamson, BA, MPA
|
Medical Restorative Massage Therapy Business
Model Lecturer for the M. T. Wellness Masters
Center, Bob holds a B. A. from the College of
Wooster, an M. P. A. from The Ohio State
University and over twenty-five years of
business development and marketing experience.
He is the Principal of MarketingAPEX, a
professional services practice in marketing and
business development that is dedicated to
helping clients increase sales, increase
profitability, or both. Founded in 2003,
MarketingAPEX has completed projects for clients
in glassware, labeling equipment, packaging,
software, medical restorative massage, trade
associations, and distribution industries. He
has extensive experience in business-to-consumer
and in business-to-business marketing with an
emphasis on the entire marketing process rather
than on individual marketing functions.
